Astra NEEDS to get Google Wave support. If you guys from Cerulean Studios weren’t at Google I/O (which I hope you were, but if you weren’t, you should regret it by now.), here’s some information:
I second that on supporting Google Wave, if someone with the programming skills and time up there sleeve to spare it would be a coo to be the first IM system to integrate with Wave.
srsly guys, are my friends dumb or is there still the bug with icq contact list on first start.. everybody complains that online icq contact numbers aren’t replaced by names automatically (and never will be – until you name them manually).. it already discouraged 3 ppl from using trillian (also wasted three invitations).. what can one do when this situation happens? is there going to be fix or at leasts some alternative solution? thx
use the link provided in your invite email. Last i heard that link still gave out build 106, so maybe wait a day or 2 more then check to see if it is build 107
Thanks for the update, I have not experienced any problems. The downlaod and update of 107 went very well. Have tested many features over the last few days and haven’t found anything to report on.
I just downloaded Trillian Pro from my e-mail link and I had gotten build 106 and not build 107. And there is no upgrade status link anywhere that I can find on my build.
Anyone know what the new “resolve at” box in proxy settings really does? I’m not sure, but setting it to “Local Machine” allows me to connect at both home (no proxy) and the office (with http proxy) without having to alter the settings. Cool feature!!
I’ve had the new build crash on me four times today; something related to contact window focus. Is there a crash report log somewhere I can post – how do I find it?
UGGHH! I have been quite frustrated lately with CS. I have been unable to update to B107 and the link to update isnt even updated! When is CS going to finally release the final build?? CS has claimed to getting ready to release the final build for about a year now…but still…NOTHING! And what is Ingmar doing with the IRC plugin? I created my own for Astra and released it to some people and somehow Ingmar came out with an almost identical version of mine…I am not sure if what I even did with making my own IRC plugin in the past around…like build 70 something, before the IRC plugin was even released is even legal but my final version is better than Ingmar’s and I have been working on my plugin for it for about a few days and CS has taken several years now!??! Astra is a great program but stop making more bugs and please just finalize the program! Every build makes about 5 new bugs that I have noticed and nothing gets done! I am tired of reporting them! WAKE UP CS!!!
@DiamondNRG- How can i send a request for a new feature in Astra? Alse, if I create my own plugin/feature that works well with no bugs, is there a way that I can send it to CS for possible review? Thanks for your help, you seem like to be the only one actually doing something to help CS move Astra along!
I had to kill the process after the update because it was stuck in an infinite loop of notifying me that “Skype is not currently installed on the system”.
Yay!
Finaly it’s gonna be released.
One important question: Will I ever be able to buy the product in a store or will this be a “buy-the-licence & register” product?
@ffe … thanks for the praise. Ingmar had been working on IRC for a long time and is an actual employee of CS now… so I am sure that is why his version is included. 3rd party plugins are always allowed and encouraged with Astra. Not sure about a competing one, but you should start a thread in the plugins forum on the Trillian Forums here and release it that way with screenshots and some explanations of the differences to the native one. From there you can then add it with the “plugins” link at the top of the Forums page that would add it to the available downloads on the site.
@Ragtimer … no IM software ever makes it to store shelves. So yeah, it will likely always be a purchase online and use product.
@DiamondNRG– Thanks but to tell you the truth, the IRC plugin in Astra is not that well built and it is just about the exact same plugin as the one in Trillian Basic! If Ingmar is a paid employee of CS then he needs to be fired….no joke!
@ffe … I don’t think firing one of the best developers is a good way for Astra to get finished anytime soon. Perhaps the IRC plugin isn’t much better than 3.X … I don’t use it much so I don’t really know. Either way, its still being actively developed, so I am sure its feature set will grow. Saying you want him fired won’t really help anything.
And there is no date available for the web version, maybe not until Astra 4.0 goes final… maybe before then… nobody knows, not even the developers as they have not decided it yet.
left of some info: platform windows, lenovo laptop t60 running windows XP pro 2001. chrome (6 tabs open), full MS outlook and adobe acrobat also running. during send of messages in rapid succession. seems a delay in enter-key submit and typing in second message. crashed during that typing/hitting enter.
@zego–well no crap! Look at all you got open! You prolly don’t have that great of a CPU. Im guessing you have the equivalent of a Intel Celeron D or so and because you don’t have over 4GB of ram so the data can not be processed that quickly. It is not the software’s fault but of the extreme multitasking you are performing on a low performance computer! Close some of the crap and just have Astra open and you will experience a total difference. Why would you even need to send rapid messages to begin with??
@ffe, while your point is somewhat valid… it still should not crash, it should just lag due to low memory if anything. I send rapid messages often, like when i hit enter and think of more I want to say before they reply (it helps that I can type so fast)…. and I don’t get the crashes… so it could be related to low memory, yes.
@zego … what amount of ram are you running in that system? And how much is available when you have that exact set of software open? How much is Astra using?
@Diamond—Well yes. I am better with hardware than software so I know how hardware works with software and you are correct, it should only lag but the crashes are the fault of the software not able to handle multiple quick succeeding messages but I do the same if I think of more to say but i think Zego was sending about 10-20 messages to see if it could handle them which I could totally understand if it does not. I have tried normal fast message sending when I forget and I have no problem at all and I have a high performance computer with 8 GB of RAM and 6Ghz AMD Phenom ll, so the hardware in your computer does matter a lot! Tell us some more info though Zego!!

Flawless install after a restart…Thanks C.S.

Thanks

I can’t join or browse for a conference after the update.
May 29th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Same problem appears with 106. I can’t seem to go back to 104 where it was working because it updates itself right away.
May 29th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
bytemybits: Which network? Just tried it locally and it works over here.
May 29th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Any ideas when the Astra Web will open access to testers again?
May 29th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
Thanks for the update. Now I just have to wait for it to auto download to my systems to test it since the manual download still points to 106.

Flawless Update, thanks

Worked fine for me, but the iTunes focusing is still a problem :/
June 2nd, 2009 at 11:43 am
Alert: that is an iTunes bug. Suggestion: use a less buggy media program.
rogerg2: the update is staggered, not everyone gets the new build the same day.

Everything has been running smoothly but after I updated trillian has crashed twice in the past hour D=

[more info on crash] seems to happen after you send a message, and continue to type, but the message hasn’t been transmitted yet

Also small annoyance: facebook birthdays don’t disappear by themselves, you have to click the little x.

Seeing what zego25 is. This build crashes on average once every two to three hours, usually upon receipt or during composition of a message.
