Trillian for Windows 4.1 Build 17.
Build 17 is now available to beta testers on the download page, fixing additional bugs. Reminder: Trillian 4.1 is not currently auto-updating itself – testers should download the new build by hand and manually update until further notice. Thanks!

After installing Trillian Astra, I attempted to log in and received the following error message : “Unable to read from or write to the coinfiguration directory for this account”. I have taken Trillian off of my computer re-downloaded it several times, as well as creating a new account, and rebooting my machine.
What do I need to do?

@gwenisupsidedown: Would you mind opening up a bug for this so that we can track it down? Information regarding bugzilla can be found at http://www.trillian.im/help/507. Thanks!!

Good build of course

So when the Ask toolbar partnership was announced a while back, it was billed as an “opt-in”. However every time I download an updated build of 4.1, the option to install the toolbar is checked by default – making it an opt-out rather than an opt-in. While I love trillian, i find that more than a little annoying when I’m installing an update…

Am I just being blind or does the download page only offer Build 16 atm? If it does you can get it off the labs page instead.

You are indeed being blind… its on the right side of the download page.

Sometimes is, sometimes isn’t i’ve now realised :S
I’m blaming O2 for this one, similarily blaming them for the corrupt download and for the fact they now seem to have cached it somewhere, so i can only get the corrupt download – albeit in a fraction of a second.
Gonna have to download it onto my netbook on campus tommorrow I think :/

@ Brian
You are correct about the Ask toolbar but keep this in mind, you only have to worry about that when you manually install Astra. Once it starts auto updating it will no longer be an issue.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:04 am
Not correct about Ask, it was not listed as opt-in … that was the new Xobni or whatever plugin. They never said Ask was opt-in. I do believe making an installer deal with Ask requires it be opt-out.

o.O We have an imposter? Although to be fair its me uhm – i posted the 2nd and 3rd comments as Brian, the first one(about Ask) was someone else.
Had me wondering if I was sleep typing for a second…

I am getting a Trojan warning when I install build 17 from Kaspersky. I have not gotten this with any other build. I’ll provide a link to the message I got. Hope everyone else has their antivirus up to date. DiamondNRG or anyone else please take a look.

My AntiVirus says there is a trojan horse in the trillian.exe v4.1.0.17-2, see here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/198370/V5eSrCPbZZfT/trillian-v4.1.0.17-2_virus.png
November 26th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
All: the trojan report is a false positive. We’ve reported it to Kaspersky and they’ve responded that their next definition update will resolve the issue.
November 26th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Thanks, latest definition update doesn’t complain any more

@smw: Thanks a lot. I figured as much but just wanted to put it out there. CC has stood behind their product all the way. Prompt and efficient, keep up the good work.

mac os 10.6 version please….!!!!
November 27th, 2009 at 8:10 am
My Kaspersky delete the trillian.exe instant if I installed it… Kaspersky definition is updated…
November 28th, 2009 at 5:07 am
I got the same problem with Kaspersky, it deleted Trillian and blocked all other installations, database released at 3:25PM, Nov 28, 2009
November 28th, 2009 at 8:30 am
I recently have been receiving “trojan” detections of trillian.exe (directly loaded from the website) as well, in my case with Avira free antivirus…
November 28th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Avira uses Kaspersky definitions, so its the same false positive. I feel like all those A/V solutions are terrible.

Wheres the mac love?
November 29th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
It would be so neat if Trillian could have a feature where you can choose to have the Windows 7 taskbar button for Trillian to display each tabbed grouped user windows on its own taskbar window. Since I use always group taskbar button, it comes in handy having the option to set the trillian button display all the tab as its own, much like IE does with tabs, and soon Firefox anyway. Anyway, its a nice option to have.

Upgraded from latest 4.0 and things seemed to go good. I don’t recall seeing an option to not install the Ask.com toolbar but maybe I missed it.
One thing I noticed right away was that all my purple XMPP icons were big and square. I noted that if I disabled avatar support that they went back to the little purple “ball”. I thought in 4.0 that with avatar support enabled that if an avatar wasn’t available the little colored “ball” would show but if there was an avatar you would get the avatar. I liked having an avatar on a contact group instead of the “head” icon yet I don’t like the change to show a larger colored block around the “ball” if no avatar is available.

Please, give us something to test, bring us a Mac OS X version… Adium needs a concurrent, and we need to use something different from Microsoft version. Please, let’s stop all “vaporware” suspects.
Thank you.

Anyone else having crashes today? Trillian 4.1 worked great yesterday. Today it keep crashing all the time after just a few seconds
December 10th, 2009 at 12:05 am
I know others have asked – but is there any update on the version for Mac users?
I love Trillian and always used it on Windows, but after switching to an Apple, I’ve been stuck without it.
December 13th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
does trillian also work on other phones other than iphone? like the samsung solstice and such?
December 14th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
@Chris, no it only works on the iPhone and iPod touch. It is an application available only through the Apple App store at this time.
